Mascot:  Golden Knights

Gold has long been a symbol of excellence, achievement, strength, and purity. In Medieval times, the Knight’s mission was to protect the weak, defenseless and helpless, and to fight for the general welfare of all. The ideal Knight was not only recognized for bravery and battle-readiness but also for being a well-rounded, skilled athlete, dancer, singer, speaker and well-read in literature.

As the founder of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. McGivney would be well-represented by the Golden Knight. Knights were sworn to uphold the values of honor, courage, faith and loyalty, which echo Father McGivney Catholic High School’s vision of unity, charity, fraternity and patriotism.

There are 18 Illinois high schools with a Knight (or some variation of a Knight) mascot, including Metro East Lutheran in Edwardsville, Mater Dei in Breese, and Triad in Troy.

Possible colors: Gold, Black and White

Mascot:  Griffins

With the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle, a Griffin is a powerful and majestic creature. Being the union of a terrestrial beast and arial bird, the Griffin has been used as a symbol of Jesus, who was both human and divine.

The legendary Griffin would be a fitting mascot for Father McGivney Catholic High School as it would defend our school's honor, just as statues of the intimidating creature have served to guard and protect many Catholic churches and cathedrals for over a thousand years.

There are two Illinois high schools with a Griffin mascot -- Roycemore in Evanston and Lincoln-Way East in Frankfort -- both outside of Chicago.

Possible colors: Gold, Green and White

Mascot:  Patriots

A Patriot is a person who loves his or her country and passionately supports its interests. Father Michael McGivney had a deep love for America and worked to instill Patriotism in those he served. He knew that Christian patriotism is rooted in the desire to see one's country excel in justice, holiness, and charity toward all.

The Knights of Columbus, founded by our patron, holds Patriotism as one of their four pillars, together with unity, charity, and fraternity, which form the foundation of our high school's mission. The bald eagle might be a fitting symbol to represent the McGivney Patriots.

There are three Illinois high schools with a Patriot mascot. They are Adlai Stevenson in Lincolnshire, Massac County in Metropolis, and Peoria Heights.

Possible colors: Red, White and Blue

Mascot:  Saints

Canonization does not "make" a person a Saint; it recognizes what God has already done. Father Michael McGivney is on his way to being canonized a Saint. This year alone, he has moved from the "Venerable" stage on to the "Beatified" or "Blessed" stage. If a miracle happens and is attributed to Father McGivney then he will be canonized a Saint!

A Saint as a mascot for Father McGivney Catholic High School would be very appropriate. While the students will strive to live saintly lives, the image of a Saint as a mascot could be a fighting Saint - depicting the confident, strong men and women who have been canonized for defending their faith.

There are three Illinois high schools with a Saint mascot. They are Central Catholic in Bloomington, Calvary in Springfield, and East in St. Charles ("Fighting" Saints).

Possible colors: Gold, White and Blue
